If an Instagram feed full of Coachella photos has whet your appetite for a weekend of dancing in fields, it’s time to dust off your tent and clean out your backpacks because festival season is back! Contributing Editor Margaret Hussey rounds up some of our UK and Ireland favourites…

Get your glitter ready for a visit to We Are FSTVL

Forward thinking 

Chemical Brothers and Jamie XX are leading the pack at Forwards in Clifton Downs, Bristol, on September 3 and 4. With Roisin Murphy, Sleaford Mods and Little Simz also on the line-up, it’s aiming to shake up the traditional music festival with The Information, a forum for activism and debate on current affairs and cultural issues. Wild thing 

Coming to Sevenoaks in Kent over two weekends, Camp Wildfire is adventure by day, party by night. Set in a forest just 40 minutes from London, you can choose from more than 100 activities from quad biking to jewellery making, learning axe skills to team games. When night falls, musical acts include Charlotte Church’s Late Night Pop Dungeon and orchestral renditions of dance anthems from the House & Garage Orchestra. Flash dance

Taking you right back, the Flashback Festival in Manchester on May 21 celebrates the best dance music from the 90s and 00s. With five stages and more than 60 artists at Platt Fields Park, you can relive your youth with Example, Tinchy Stryder, Tulisa, Judge Jules, DJ Luck and Artful Dodger. All together now

There’s something for everyone at In It Together in Wales in June. The new three-day festival from June 3-5 has an eclectic line up of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Two Door Cinema Club, Clean Bandit, The Vaccines, The Editors, Armand Van Helden, and Todd Terry. With eight stages at Margam there are luxury camping options, a dedicated campsite for 16 to 17-year-olds, a quieter campsite for those who want to relax, as well as a louder campsite for the real party animals. Good for the soul

With Roisin Murphy and Mogwai leading the line-up, Body & Soul will bring musical pioneers, legendary artists and new talent to Ballinlough Castle, County Westmeath, Ireland from June 17-19. Going retro

DJ Graeme Park, the original DJ from the legendary Hacienda, reinterprets and performs seminal house and club classics on an epic scale at Retro in the Park on July 2. With a full live orchestra, the Manchester Camerata, he will be mixing live at the show at Burnley’s Towneley Park with samples, loops alongside the orchestra in a continuous DJ mix. Beating the drum

Forest friends

More than 50 of the world’s leading acts from the Techno, House, Disco, Drum & Bass and Bass scene are coming to Forbidden Forest on July 2 and 3.
