Wet weather dressing is one I’ve always struggled with. It’s not easy to look chic when you’ve been caught in a downpour and in previous years raincoats have been entirely practical and very much lacking on the style points. Thankfully, living in the UK, brands have cottoned on to the fact that most of us like to mix our fashion with a side of functional and rain macs and waterproof coats have had a little bit of a facelift in recent years. From showerproof to all out torrential downpour, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite raincoats to keep you dry and on-trend this season.

H&M totally get what we need. If you’ve headed back to the office you’ll by now realise that what you’ve really not missed is the game of, ‘what layers do I need to get to the office warm and dry but not so that I’m super sweaty as soon as I hit public transport’. It’s a real conundrum and one we’re constantly trying to finely balance. H&M have aptly named this poncho style coat, the packable commuter jacket and we are totally here for it. Made from wind and waterproof functional fabric it has sealed seams to keep you dry and comfortable. There is a stand-up collar with a concealed hood for those wet weather emergencies. Featuring a zip down the front with an anti-chafe chin guard, zipped front pockets for safe storage of valuables, and an elasticated drawstring around the collar, cuffs and at the waist for an adjustable fit and reflective details (great for coming home on those dark nights), there is even a mesh-lined yoke for maximum ventilation. Basically this packable parka has it all and comes in two colours. H&M we salute you.
Rainkiss is a brand we discovered on Instagram and we’re totally obsessed with their printed waterproof ponchos. Taking the classic poncho shape and treating it to a host of really beautiful prints and a elongated silhouette, Rainkiss have managed to take the waterproof poncho to a fashionable new level. Still not sure? They use 100% recycled polyester so it’s an eco friendly waterproof too.
We’re big fans of Isle Jacobsen and have used the brand for years on fashion shoots and features. Super sleek, wet weather looks that come in the softest of ice cream hues, Isle Jacobsen long waterproof coats are definitely an investment piece.
A classic choice, Joules has a heap of styles for those who love the great outdoors. Not only do they have lots of waterproof coats, you can also find stacks of great wellies too! As the name suggests this brand is brilliant for those who like to get back to nature. But even if you’re a city girl at heart, this lightly quilted coat with half faux shearling lining will add a little bit of extra protection whether you’re off for a hike or posing outside the pub with a pint. Better still, it’s available up to a size 28 too!
You might be more used to getting your leggings and sports bras from this brand but don’t forget the wealth of knowledge and technology Sweaty Betty has at their fingertips to create fantastic outdoor pieces too. This khaki green park is both fashionable and functional.

We had to finish off with some more leopard print of course. We love the blue base on this coat and the dipped back hem offers a lovely extra design twist. Being from Simply Be, this coat is great for plus sizes. Limited sizes left.

The originals, Barbour is a great choice for a designer led waterproof. Loved by celebrities and even the Queen, a Barbour coat is an investment piece that will last you a lifetime. In fact the brand are dedicated to their quality and longevity of a piece so much that once the wax layer (the barrier that makes it waterproof) starts to wain after some wear, you can get the jacket re-waxed rather than buying a new one, making this a good sustainable option too. The brand have recently opened up a re-waxing concession in Selfridges if you want to take your coat in, in person.
