Wet weather dressing is one I’ve always struggled with. It’s not easy to look chic when you’ve been caught in a downpour and in previous years raincoats have been entirely practical and very much lacking on the style points. Thankfully, living in the UK, brands have cottoned on to the fact that most of us like to mix our fashion with a side of functional and rain macs and waterproof coats have had a little bit of a facelift in recent years. From showerproof to all out torrential downpour, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite raincoats to keep you dry and on-trend this season.

H&M
H&M totally get what we need. If you’ve headed back to the office you’ll by now realise that what you’ve really not missed is the game of, ‘what layers do I need to get to the office warm and dry but not so that I’m super sweaty as soon as I hit public transport’. It’s a real conundrum and one we’re constantly trying to finely balance. H&M have aptly named this poncho style coat, the packable commuter jacket and we are totally here for it. Made from wind and waterproof functional fabric it has sealed seams to keep you dry and comfortable. There is a stand-up collar with a concealed hood for those wet weather emergencies. Featuring a zip down the front with an anti-chafe chin guard, zipped front pockets for safe storage of valuables, and an elasticated drawstring around the collar, cuffs and at the waist for an adjustable fit and reflective details (great for coming home on those dark nights), there is even a mesh-lined yoke for maximum ventilation. Basically this packable parka has it all and comes in two colours. H&M we salute you.

Taking the classic poncho shape and treating it to a host of really beautiful prints and a elongated silhouette, Rainkiss have managed to take the waterproof poncho to a fashionable new level. Still not sure? They use 100% recycled polyester so it’s an eco friendly waterproof too.

Barbour
The originals, Barbour is a great choice for a designer led waterproof. Loved by celebrities and even the Queen, a Barbour coat is an investment piece that will last you a lifetime. In fact the brand are dedicated to their quality and longevity of a piece so much that once the wax layer (the barrier that makes it waterproof) starts to wain after some wear, you can get the jacket re-waxed rather than buying a new one, making this a good sustainable option too. The brand have recently opened up a re-waxing concession in Selfridges if you want to take your coat in, in person.
