We love finding you that special place for a weekend break. And for style, all round great service and warmth, you can’t beat The Montenotte Hotel in Cork says contributing editor Margaret Hussey.
With incredible views over the city, and two rooftop bars, it is fast becoming the place to be seen.

And even more so next month, when the hotel runs a special series of films to celebrate the Cannes Film Festival.
The Montenotte has its own private 50-seater Cameo cinema, so you can have your very own red carpet experience with a glass of bubbly on arrival.

The cinema has tiered theatre seating, designer cushions and throws, and a large 13ft x 8ft screen that provides state-of-the-art technology. It’s also available for exclusive hire.
Films are screened daily for hotel guests and they also have special Dinner and Movie Packages – a three course meal at the hotel’s Panorama Restaurant with a movie is €49 per person while a glamorous Friday Champagne package is €75 per person.

The food in the Panorama restaurant is heaven – Irish, hearty and with a modern twist. There’s Galway bay moules marinière with garlic cream and braised Irish short rib with gremolata and toasted hazelnuts.
Stay a while longer to discuss the film at the hotel’s Panorama Terrace. It does exactly what it says on the tin – giving amazing views over Cork city and beyond. We loved the mixture of industrial mixed with church spires.

Or try their very moreish drinks at The Glasshouse, where the botanical ingredients match the decor of potted plants. There’s also a pretty-in-pink outdoor terrace, where you can sip the hotel’s signature cocktail The Royale Rose, made with their bespoke Montenotte gin, strawberry purée, lemon juice and egg white foam, with a shot of Prosecco on the side.
The independently-run hotel has 107 rooms with all mod cons, crisp bed linen and lovely touches like their own Montenotte water and luxurious toiletries. There are also 19 self-catering apartments.
For fitness fans, there’s a 20 metre pool, gym, sauna and steam room in The Motion Health Club. Or take a walk around the hotel’s landscaped gardens with its quirky statues and sculptures.
If you are more of the pampering type, you can try the treatments in the tranquil and top notch Bellevue Spa. And in a first for Irish hotels, the spa has recently partnered with renowned Australian skincare brand Grown Alchemist.
For overnighters, make sure you fill your boots at breakfast. There’s great veggie options, delicious Irish bread and Eggs Benedict with the yellowest yolks. You will never want to leave..
Rooms from €245, include breakfast, access to both the Cameo Cinema (over 18s only) and The Motion Health Club, for more visit themontenottehotel.com
