Best New Summer Holiday Destinations 2023

With the long weekend finally here, it’s time to start planning your summer holiday. Here, contributing editor Margaret Hussey shares her top new destinations to visit in summer 2023 – from beautiful Brittany to magical Mauritius.

Breton style

Fancy a pool AND a rooftop bar, all for under £100? Then pop Mama Shelter in Rennes on your to-do list. Just opened in Brittany, it’s the brand’s ninth hotel in France and features all of Mama’s trademarks – quirky design and a great location.

Housed in a former mint, they’ve kept original features like parquet floors, fireplaces and period detailing.

The rooftop bar gives views over the Place des Lices in the heart of the city, while its first ever Mama Skin Spa has a hammam, sauna and treatments. Time to pack your stripey top.

From 99€ for a medium room. For more visit mamashelter.com/rennes

Perfect match

Owned by Wimbledon winner Andy Murray and his wife Kim, Cromlix in Perthshire, Scotland, is a real home from home,

Just three miles from Dunblane, it’s set in 34 acres of secluded woodlands and grounds, with its own chapel and loch.

Following a major refurbishment, its 15 luxury bedrooms and Gate Lodge are the perfect place to kick off your walking boots after a day in the countryside.

You can also try your hand at archery, quad biking, falconry and, of course, tennis.

Room rates at Cromlix start from £310 per night, including breakfast. For more visit: https://pobhotels.com/hotel/cromlix-hotel/

Mauritian magic

We are really spoiling you here with two beautiful Sunlife resorts in Mauritius. The recently renovated five star Sugar Beach has rooms with breathtaking views of the beach, lagoon and coconut groves. You can also indulge in experiences like Putting on the Ritz, a head-to-toe makeover and couture gown hire, or L’Atelier des Sens’ to create your own perfume.

Meanwhile the five-star Long Beach, on the east coast, has three outdoor pools, five restaurants and five bars, so you will never be short of a cocktail at sunset.

Experiences here include Swing and Drift, massages in hammocks dotted around the resort, or a sunrise kayak, spotting coral and fish in the lagoon.

Sugar Beach: Tropical Sky can offer a seven night stay in May and June from £2249 per person on an all-inclusive basis based on two adults sharing a Deluxe Seaview room.

Long Beach: Tropical Sky can offer a seven night stay in May and June from £1899 per person on an all-inclusive basis based on two adults sharing a Junior Suite.

Both include direct flights from London Heathrow and include in resort transfers.

Azores galore

Set on São Miguel, the Azores’ archipelago’s largest isle, Octant Furnas is surrounded by greenery and thermal springs.

And its new Terrace Pool Rooms, complete with a heated swimming pool, private outdoor deck and sun loungers, are the perfect place to enjoy the lush surroundings.

In keeping with its location, the rooms are decorated in various shades of green with wooden details, and complete with Marshall speakers and a mini bar.

There’s also a spa with ten treatment rooms and the A Terra restaurant is bursting with flavoursome food, locally sourced.

Rates for the Terrace Pool Rooms start from 210€ per night including mini bar and breakfast. For more information visit www.furnas.octanthotels.com

Isle of White

Opening last week just in time for the Easter break, Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay is back with a whole host of activities to get you feeling your best self with holistic hikes, beauty workshops and yoga sessions.

The hotel’s idyllic location in Talamanca Bay is slightly removed from the hustle and bustle, giving you the chance to experience the beauty of the south of the island.

Their gastro offerings are everything you would expect from the world renowned Nobu Restaurant. The Japanese fusion cuisine is balanced with traditional Balearic products – from gambas al ajillo Nobu style, a local dish with prawns caught off the coast of Formentera, to the nigiri with red mullet or the blue Formentera lobster.

The Nobu Lounge will have the exclusive feel of a member’s club, and will be open from 11pm till late. While the new Nobu Rooftop Terrace will open for the season at the end of May.

Rooms from 450€ per night in low season and 1200€ in high season. For more visit nobuhotelibizabay.com
